As part of an ongoing effort to strengthen long-term protocol alignment, we are winding down cmETH, our liquid restaking token. All other mETH Protocol products will continue to operate as usual.
Existing cmETH positions remain secure, and unstaking and bridging will remain available to support users throughout the wind-down period.
Rationale
Since launch, cmETH quickly grew to become one of the most widely integrated LRTs onchain and on Bybit, reaching $620M in TVL at its peak. However, following careful evaluation of current sector developments and product priorities, we have determined that winding down cmETH is the most prudent path forward.
Our continued focus is on infrastructure-led growth centered on institutional-grade ETH yield, and long-term protocol sustainability.
Wind-Down Timeline
Users will have six months from today to claim any outstanding rewards from previous cmETH campaigns, including EigenLayer Phase 1 and 2, Pendle USDe, Methamorphosis Seasons 1, 2, and 3, COOK Feast Season 1, and the Fixed Yield Vault.
May 7, 2026: cmETH minting disabled Users will no longer be able to mint new cmETH. This does not affect existing cmETH positions. Unstaking and bridging remain operational to support users exiting cmETH.
Mid-May, 2026: cmETH unstaking claims expected to become available If you have already initiated a cmETH unstake, your claim is expected to become available from May 15, 2026 onwards.
For new cmETH unstakes initiated after May 15, 2026, mETH may be claimable after the standard 8-hour fast withdrawal period when buffer liquidity is available. If buffer liquidity is unavailable, the unstake may take up to 14 days due to the EigenLayer withdrawal process.
Users can track current liquidity status https://app.methprotocol.xyz/stats/cmeth.
Mid-June, 2026: Final EigenLayer reward distribution Any EigenLayer rewards earned through Oct. 20, 2025 that have not yet been distributed will be made available to claim.
Nov. 7, 2026: Reward claim window closes Claim portals for past cmETH campaigns will be taken offline. If future TGEs occur from AVSs, Symbiotic, or Karak that include retroactive rewards for cmETH holders, those rewards will still be distributed to eligible users.
Note: Unstaking and bridging contracts are expected to remain available beyond the reward claim window, subject to ongoing review of remaining supply and user activity.
What You Need to Do
- If you hold cmETH, you can continue to unstake or bridge at any time. cmETH minting will be disabled from today, but unstaking and bridging will remain available to support exit operations.
- If you hold cmETH in partner protocols, please review your positions and check each platform’s continued support of cmETH. Some partners may adjust or wind down their cmETH markets on their own timelines.
- If you have unclaimed rewards, please claim them before Nov. 7, 2026. A follow-up announcement will be shared once the final EigenLayer reward distribution is complete.
- If you stake mETH, nothing changes. mETH minting, staking, and bridging continue as normal. Only the cmETH layer is winding down.
Thank you for being part of our journey. mETH Protocol continues to build.
